I have officiated at wedding ceremonies for many interfaith couples during my career as a Reform rabbi. During this most
significant life-cycle event, most interfaith couples seek to honor their families of origin as well as their respective religious,
ethnic, and cultural traditions by sharing information, experiences, and rituals. Over the years I have become aware increasingly
of the need and desire to have opportunities for exploring the concerns and questions of interfaith families in an open, accepting
setting, one where there is no hidden agenda for one partner or the other to convert. From my perspective, the only legitimate
goal of an Interfaith program is to bring together those who share similar concerns, to talk about on-going concerns, and
to support the choices each family makes. Of course, it is of utmost importance to be aware at all times that there are no
easy answers nor any one approach that works for everyone.
